Wilt Chamberlain

Wilt Chamberlain is a Warriors franchise legend and one of the most dominant players basketball has ever seen — he remains the only player ever to score 100 points in an NBA game, done on 2 March 1962 against the New York Knicks in Hershey, Pennsylvania, as a member of the Philadelphia Warriors, the franchise that would later move west to become the Golden State Warriors (career record). He’s a cornerstone name for any collector building a Warriors legends collection.

What to collect

Chamberlain’s headline card is his 1961-62 Fleer #8 rookie, one of the most significant cards in the entire basketball hobby. Because it’s a genuinely vintage issue, condition and grade matter enormously — a high-grade, well-centered example is worth dramatically more than a raw, off-center one. Beyond the rookie, other vintage Fleer and Topps-era issues round out a serious Chamberlain collection.

Buying tips

• Buy graded (PSA, SGC, BGS) for the rookie — authenticity and condition sensitivity are extremely high for vintage cards of this stature.
• Centering, corners, and surface separate common copies from valuable ones.
